EarthQuaker Session: The Kandinsky Effect - "Loops"

The brainchild of saxophonist Warren Walker, the Kandinsky Effect creates dark, groove-oriented, downtempo Jazz soundscapes anchored by the steady pulse of bassist Gael Petrina and drummer Caleb Dolister.

The trio blends modern Jazz improvisation with electronic textures and beat-driven composition driven in part by Walker’s pioneering use of effects pedals with the saxophone. His combined saxophone / synth rig leans heavy on delay and modulation, including the Avalanche Run, Transmisser, and Spatial Delivery, which he uses to great effect (pun intended) in this ambient jazz tune.

Meanwhile, Petrina holds it down on bass, using the Afterneath to set the stage with ambient volume swells, before laying into a heavy bassline with some help from the Bows before kicking on the Terminal to take things up a notch at the tune’s climax.
